Free Crochet Pattern | Little Ewe Elf Hat

As promised, you can now hook up a FREE crochet elf hat for Little Ewe to help get your sheep in an elvish mood and all ready for the Sheep on the Shelf competition!

Little Ewe's Elf Hat Crochet Pattern
Yarn: 20g (26m) of 4ply / Fingering Weight Yarn of Green Yarn (Sheepjes Stonewashed in shade 7021 Pedirot used in photographs).
Hook: 3 mm (US size 5/0)
You will also need:
Stitch marker
Yarn needle
4 x 6mm bells
1 x 10mm bell
Green sewing thread and needle
Gauge: 4dc/sc = 2.5cm (1inch).
Abbreviations:
st(s) = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
ch(s) = chain
dc/sc = UK double crochet / US single crochet
dc/sc2tog = UK double crochet 2 together / US double crochet 2 together
( ) = Work any sts in brackets into one st
Stitch Guidance:
Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook in st indicated, yarn over and draw through all loops.
UK Double Crochet/US Single Crochet (dc/sc): Insert hook in st indicated and draw up a loop (two loops on hook), yarn over, draw through both loops on hook.
Invisible UK Double Crochet 2 together / US Double Crochet 2 together (dc/sc2tog): Insert hook in the front loops only of the sts indicated and draw up a loop (two loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook in the front loop of the next st, draw up a loop (three loops on hook) draw through all loops on hook.
Pattern Notes:
Using a stitch marker: Most of the sections of this pattern are worked without joining in continuous rnds. Place the stitch marker in the top of the first st to mark start of rnd.
Pattern:
Rnd 1: Either make a magic ring (adjustable ring) to start or 2ch, work 3dc/sc into the ring / 2nd ch from hook, use tail yarn to tighten centre ring closed if necessary (3sts).
Rnd 2: 2dc/sc in each st until the end of the rnd (6sts)
Rnd 3: 1dc/sc in each st until the end of the rnd.
Rnd 4: * 1dc/sc in next st, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (9sts).
Rnd 5: Repeat row 3
Rnd 6: * 1dc/sc in next 2sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (12sts).
Rnd 7: Repeat row 3
Rnd 8: * 1dc/sc in next 3sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (15sts).
Rnd 9: Repeat row 3
Rnd 10: * 1dc/sc in next 4sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (18sts).
Rnd 11: Repeat row 3
Rnd 12: * 1dc/sc in next 5sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (21sts).
Rnd 13: Repeat row 3
Rnd 14: * 1dc/sc in next 6sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (24sts).
Rnd 15: Repeat row 3
Rnd 16: * 1dc/sc in next 3sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (30sts).
Rnd 17: Repeat row 3
Rnd 18: * 1dc/sc in next 4 sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (36sts).
Rnd 19: * 1dc/sc in next 17 sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (38sts).
Rnd 20: * 1dc/sc in next 18 sts, 2dc/sc in next st * rep from * to * until the end of the rnd (40sts).
Rnds 21-28: Repeat row 3
The next section is worked in rows to make the first point of the hat brim;
Row 1: 1dc/sc in the next 10sts, turn. (10sts)
Row 2: Ch1, 1dc/sc in the same st as the beginning ch1, dc/sc2tog next, 1dc/sc in the next 4sts, dc/sc2tog next, 1dc/sc in the last st, turn. (8sts)
Row 3: Ch1, 1dc/sc in the same st as the beginning ch1, 1dc/sc in each st along until end, turn
Row 4: Ch1, 1dc/sc in the same st as the beginning ch1, dc/sc2tog next, 1dc/sc in the next 2sts, dc/sc2tog next, 1dc/sc in the last st, turn. (6sts)
Row 5: Repeat row 3
Row 6: Ch1, 1dc/sc in the same st as the beginning ch1, dc/sc2tog twice, 1dc/sc in the last st, turn. (4sts)
Row 7: Repeat row 3
Row 8: Ch1; dc/sc2tog twice, turn (2sts)
Row 9: Ch1; dc/sc2tog, fasten off and weave in ends
To make the next point of the hat brim go to the st on your hat next to where you finished off on row 1 and reattach yarn with a sl st. Repeat rows 1 – 9 in this manner until you have 4 hat brim points.
Making up:
With green thread attach a 6mm bell to the end of each point of the hat brim
Add 10mm bell to the top of the hat
Turn back brim of the hat so the brim points face upwards
Add to Little Ewe’s head and go have some fun!
